Why Nutrition?

Today, more than 30% of young children suffer from some form of malnutrition with devastating consequences on health, learning, future earning potential, economic development, resilience & security.

But when…

Girls and women are well-nourished and have healthy newborn babies
Children receive proper nutrition and develop strong minds and bodies
Adolescents learn better and achieve higher grades in school
Young adults are better able to work and earn a sufficient income
Families and communities emerge out of poverty
Communities and nations are productive and stable
And the world is a safer,more resilient and strong place

The Facts

  • Over 165 million children under 5 are stunted as a result of malnutrition;
  • 52 million children are too thin and require special treatment;
  • 43 million children are overweight, as a result of poverty, when families are unable to afford a balanced, nutritious diet; and
  • 2 billion people are deficient in key vitamins & minerals.

Nutrition is a Smart Investment

  • Investing in nutrition can help to break the cycle of poverty;
  • It can increase a country’s GDP by at least 2-3% annually; and
  • Investing $1 in nutrition can result in a return of up to $30.
